Smarter, stronger forecourt safety
The Project
Working in collaboration with Gilbarco Veeder-Root (subsequently acquired by TSG Solutions) , STA Technical was commissioned to redesign a legacy emergency cabinet for use across unmanned petrol forecourts operated by their supermarket client.
The Challenge
Initially tasked with assembling existing cabinet stock, STA identified several inherent issues within the original design, including limitations in assembly, durability, usability and long-term performance.
Rather than simply reproducing an outdated solution, STA was invited to propose an improved design. The challenge was to enhance performance and lifespan while maintaining familiarity and functionality — embracing a philosophy of evolution, not revolution.
The Solution
STA developed a redesigned emergency cabinet that significantly improved durability, usability and sustainability, while remaining practical for deployment across multiple sites.
Key features include
· Two-part modular design for safer and easier manual handling
Fabrication in Nirosta (stainless) steel, delivering vastly improved corrosion resistance compared to mild steel
Enhanced powder-coated finish, offering better adhesion and longevity on stainless steel
Design compliant with relevant industry standards
Integrated audio communication, with optional video capability
Sustainable lifecycle approach – cabinets can be returned to STA for refurbishment, including sandblasting and repainting, extending product lifespan and reducing waste
The Results
Following approval of the new design, over 350 cabinets have been manufactured and delivered to GVR for installation across their client’s supermarket forecourt network.
Due to the success of the solution, additional independent retailers have also adopted the cabinet. STA is now embarking on a second project with TSG for a different supermarket client.
