THE NEWSROOM
Farewell to Oscar
Congratulations to Oscar Goodman (third from left) who left STA at the end of July to go on to very exciting things. With over 300 applicants applying for a Level 6 Engineering Apprenticeship at Airbus in Stevenage, Oscar is just one of 17 successful applicants. With the STA team wishing him every success in his new role, Oscar said, “It’s been a great nine months working at STA and I’ve learnt many life and work skills that will stand me in good stead for all that’s ahead of me.”
AdBlue Sumps
Commissioned to fabricate sumps for an AdBlue installation in Scotland, we embraced STA’s “evolution, not revolution” approach. Building on our proven sump design, these units have been refined to simplify installation, making life easier for both the onsite pipefitters and electricians, while ensuring 100% watertight integrity.
Small Changes Making a Noticeable Difference
If you’ve ever dealt with the old-style offset fuel grade labels, you’ll know how hard they are to keep clean, straight, and looking right.
We’ve been seeing more and more sites, from big brands to independents, moving over to our rubber-edged grade labels for exactly that reason. They’re made with a tough laminate used in the aviation industry, and because there are no sharp edges, they’re much safer to handle. With safety benefits for installer, tanker driver, and the public in the event of close contact, these labels offer durability and demonstrate well-maintained equipment – the kind of detail that usually stands out as a positive to visiting Petroleum Officers.
Grant Funding
As an SME that has successfully applied for grant funding, we’ve seen first-hand the difference it can make. The opportunities are out there, and we would strongly encourage other SMEs to seek them out, invest the time in completing applications, and gather the necessary quotes. While the process can be time consuming, it’s absolutely worthwhile. If successful, the funding can have a real and tangible impact on growth, capability, and in our case with the banners, how we present ourselves at exhibitions.
Trust & Transparency
With two of our longest-standing clients just over an hour away from each other in Scotland, I stopped making excuses for getting out on the road and headed north to pay Petroassist UK and TSG UK Solutions a long overdue visit.
Thanks to everyone for the collaborative conversations, the enthusiasm that greeted us and the working relationships we never take for granted.
Using the trip there and back to reconnect with businesses and spark new connections, this three day road trip was a powerful reminder that whatever the size of your business, trust and transparency is what it's all about. And nothing beats getting out there and talking.
Proudly Developing Future Talent
Engineering is a trade learned by doing, a fact STA Technical’s MD, Warren Peters, knows only too well. Having started his own career as an apprentice back in his native New Zealand, STA has been built with the goal of keeping that practical mentorship alive.
Innovation through Collaboration
Featured in the Winter 2025/2026 edition of Insite magazine (the official magazine of PEIMF+), Warren Peters talks about how STA Technical’s innovative engineering processes don’t start life in a client’s office. Rather, they begin on site, with those people who install, maintain, and rely on the company’s equipment every day.
Suffolk Small Grant Fund
With a range of funding opportunities available for small busineses we were thrilled when our bid was successful. Receiving funds to support new photography and video, marketing materials and two much-welcomed additions to the workshop - a chop saw and a welding extraction fan - thanks go to the Suffolk Small Grant Scheme.
STA Tank Test Rigs Get Thumbs Up
Having just completed an order for a further five of our tank and test rigs, sales of this 'go-to' piece of kit have now reached 150!! Thanks to all those installers and pump manufacturers who tell us this is an indispensable addition to the tools in the back of the van.
100+ Bollards Makes For Happy Customer
Receiving customer postivie customer feedback is what it’s all about. Here's what Karl Orton of Steve Williams Construction West Midlands had to say about our bollards.
"As part of a recent project, STA fabricated over 100 bespoke bollards to exact specifications for installation on our site. Every unit has arrived precisely as ordered and on time no matter where the destination may be, allowing our team to complete the installations smoothly and to the highest standards. The result? A fully protected, professional finish that has delivered exactly what the client required, and a very happy customer. A big thank you to the STA team for their excellent service and craftsmanship."
Collaborative Design
Working in collaboration with Ipswich Borough Council's Parks Service STA has developed a new security gate system for its open spaces. With the first prototype now installed and with additional gates in the production pipeline, it’s a pleasure doing business with the Council.
Spray Booth Smart
One of the biggest frustrations we hear from customers is being let down by suppliers at the last minute — which is exactly why we’re glad we made the call a few years back to invest in our own spray booth. It means we’re not stuck waiting on anyone else’s lead times, and we can paint our own bollards, tank lids, cradles, and other componentry in-house. The result? We stay on schedule and keep our quality consistent.
Milestone Birthday
How did that happen?! Ten years already. We're excited to see where the next chapter takes us, but for now, a massive thank you to everyone who’s been part of our journey — our clients, partners, and suppliers. And of course, the biggest shoutout goes to the team here as it’s their passion, hard work, and teamwork that truly set us apart.
Bollards Head to the Spraybooth
With our spray booth busier than ever, the STA team is starting work on 80 bollards ordered by a client for forecourts across the country.
When a Client Pops In
A big thanks to Darren Horspole of Gilbarco Veeder Root for delivering a second Tool Box Talk. This time the insightful session was all about working in confined spaces. Darren also used the visit to check up on the progress of a project we were doing, a dosing cabinet heading to Sweden.
Sizewell C Supply Chain Engagement Director Comes to Visit
We were delighted to welcome Ashley Shorey-Mills, Sizewell C Supply Chain Engagement Director (right) to come and visit on Monday 5th August. Spending a couple of hours with us, click here to read what Sizewell C Supply Chain said on LinkedIn about the visit.
Emergency Cabinets in Production
With over 350+ emergency cabinets delivered for a supermarket client of GVR in 2022/2023, it’s great to be working with the Gilbarco team again, and fulfilling an order for another of its clients.
Corporate Video in the Making
With the whole team involved, drones flying and feeling slightly out of my comfort zone talking to camera, we're excited to see the end result - and share how we do things at STA and what sets us apart. The video will be shared on our newlook website shortly.
